John Lawrence Martin, Sr., 89 of Marion, AL went to his eternal home on March 8, 2023. He was born on October 10, 1933 in Vinemont, AL to Everett Parish Martin and Buena Gibson Martin. He was a graduate of Auburn University, served 30 years in the Army Reserves earning the rank of Colonel, an insurance agent and a financial consultant.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Patsy Lamar Martin; and his brother, James Martin. He is survived by his wife, Judy Lee Brackin Hereford Martin; his daughter Pam Martin of Caddo Mills, TX; his stepdaughters: Leanne Peacock (Rob) of Faunsdale, AL, Rachel Griffith (John) of Thomaston, AL, and Samantha Hereford of Huntsville, AL; his sons: John Martin, Jr. (Alma) of Santa Rosa, FL, and Lamar Martin of Birmingham, AL; and his stepson Trey Hereford (Rhonda) of Baton Rouge, LA. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Derek Hereford, Will Peacock, Nichole Peacock, Anna Weimorts, and Meridith Weimorts; and two great-grandchildren: Chloe Peacock, and Brooks Hereford.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, March 13, 2023 at 2:00 pm at Marion United Methodist Church with Rev. Len Hurston, Rev. George McKee, and Dr. Dan Thornton officiating and Kirk Funeral Homes, Marion Chapel directing.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial may be made to Marion United Methodist Church.
