Woodfin, Bessie

Bessie Marie Tomerlin Woodfin, age 92 of Athens passed away Thursday January 13, 2022 at North Alabama Medical Center. Mrs. Woodfin was born November 11th, 1929 in Limestone county Alabama to Kelsey Tomerlin and Lacie Griggs Tomerlin.
There will be a visitation Tuesday January 18th at First Baptist Church in Athens from 10AM-12PM with a service to follow in the church. Committal service and burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery.
Mrs.Woodfin is preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband of 53 years William B. "Billy" Woodfin, brother Grady Tomerlin, and sister Thelma McGee.
Mrs. Woodfin was a member of First Baptist Church for 77 years, and taught Sunday school there for 50 of those years. She worked as an accounting supervisor at Monsanto in Decatur for over 30 years. She served two terms as a board member for the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions, and was also a board member for the Alabama Baptist Historical Commission. Mrs. Woodfin served as the director of the Women's Missionary Union at First Baptist Church. She was also a member of the library board, a member of the garden club, and volunteered for DHR for many years. She was the caretaker of her mother. She also was a proud breast cancer survivor in 2007. Among all of her hobbies, one of them being her love of cross stitching, the one that stood out as her one true love was reading. She was also a long time supporter of St. Jude's Children's Hospital and the Women's Missionary Union.
Mrs. Woodfin had a deep love for her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was loved by many and will be deeply missed.
She is survived by her son John B. Woodfin, his children Adam Woodfin (Megan) and Brad Woodfin, and their children William Woodfin, Matthew Woodfin and Benjamin Woodfin; Son Harold Woodfin (Micki), his children Phillip Woodfin (Kelly), John C. Woodfin (Tiffany) and Amanda Maher (David), and their children Emily Woodfin, Meridith Woodfin, Averi Woodfin, Drake Woodfin, Jaden Case, Anna Maher, Emmaline Maher and Lily Maher; Daughter Phyllis Borum (Charles), her children Clint Borum (Amy) and Cory Borum (Lorie) and their children Gauge Borum, Reagan Borum, Mack Borum and Finn Borum.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to either St. Jude's Children's Hospital or the WMU.
