MCCOLLUM, Richard

Richard Kent McCollum was born June 28, 1983. After a courageous battle with cancer, he passed away peacefully December 28, 2020, surrounded by his loving family.
In a beautiful celebration of life this past June, Richard bade farewell to his friends and family, enjoying what he loved most being surrounded by them in the outdoors, with music and laughter. He enjoyed hiking, especially on the Appalachian Trail, mountain biking and canoeing. Richard will always be remembered for his incredible compassion for the less fortunate and the joy he brought with him. His genuine sensitivity and concern for others was matched only by his sense of humor and wit. He loved his years as a student and was a proud alumnus of Saint Bernard Preparatory School in Cullman. While earning his B.S. in Business from the University of Alabama, Richard helped lead recycling drives and litter cleanups, volunteered at T-town Paws and enjoyed countless crawfish boils and football games with friends. His proudest moments were introducing his precious daughters to a shared love of cooking, music and nature with his wife. He will forever live on in their hearts, and his spirit will shine through their smiles.
Richard is survived by his loving wife, Angela Harber McCollum; his daughters, Miriam Pearl and Ruby Louise; parents, Barbara and Frank McCollum Jr.; in-laws, Jerry and Laura Harber; grandmother-in-law, Marie Spain; brother, Frank O. (Dee Dee) McCollum III; sister, Sarah (Matthew) Downs; sister-in-law, Melissa (Scott) Witte; brother-in-law, Casey Harber; and nieces and nephews: Paxton, Graham, Olive, Taylor, Olivia, Marley, Cole and Hayes.
Richard is preceded in death by his grandparents: Frank and Ann McCollum; Kent and Eleanor Harris.
A private Committal of Ashes Service was officiated by Father Joel Martin at the St. Bernard Chapel.
